Tai Chi and Chi Gong at The Radiant Hand

The ancient Chinese art of Tai Chi is today one of the most widely practised form of martial arts in the world. Yet unlike some of its more aggressive counterparts, Tai Chi is known more for its therapeutic benefits than for its application as a method of fighting. It is a holistic meditative exercise, emphasizing the development of a whole person. It works with the subtle bodies and energies that constitute our entire being.
Tai Chi is a practice of meditation within movement, a series of movements performed in a slow relaxed and harmonised way. It is the Taoist Path to mental, physical, and spiritual well-being as well as being a powerful ‘internal’ martial art.
Chi Gong or qigong is an internal Chinese meditative practice that sometimes uses slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to promote the circulation of 'qi' or 'chi' within the human body. Regular practice of this healing art helps to enhance and promote a persons overall health.
There are also many forms of Chi Gong that are done with little or no movement at all, in standing, sitting and supine positions; likewise, not all forms of Chi Gong use breath control techniques.
In its simplest form, the Chinese character for qi, in qigong, can mean air, breath, or "life force". Gong means work, so qigong is therefore the practice of "working" with one's "life force".
Whether you are young or old, weak or strong, you will be able to derive benefits from both these healing arts.
